If you have any intentions of running for the world title, it
all starts in Costa Mesa. The Toyota American Final is the first leg
in the long journey. Tonight all the hopfulls along with a few who
thought it is a long shot showed up to show their stuff. Hopefulls
from the British league include Sam and Charles Ermolenko, Chris Manchester,
and Charlie Venages. Northern California riders Bobby Hedden, Pat linn and
Bob Hicks also showed up. Most of the raceing was, well kind of a bore.
They all raced hard into turn one then very little passing. As the night
went on into the final round, the pace stepped up. Charlie Venagas was
perfect for three rounds before getting upset by Bobby Schwartz.
As in past weeks the ref had a little to do with the results. I will say it again,
I know his job is a hard one and I mean NO disrespect. At time Bubba would
call riders for anticipating the start. He would warn them, then on the restart
they would do it again and not get called. This was the case when Charlie lost to
Bobby. This was not the only time it happened. The fans I think were to hard
on Bubba though. I think Terry Clanton should explain the anticipation rule.
I would guess not to many people understand it. As I have read it,
once the green staging light comes on, you must remain stationary.
if you are moving forward, that is anticipating the start even if you do
not touch the tapes. Well, this did bite a few riders including Sam Ermolenko
in a runoff later.
PLUG TIME:
For those of you thinking about buying Raz Videos crash tapes, I think you should.
I watched HELP Saturday night after the races. It was great and my 5 year old son
stayed up until 1:00 am with me to watch it. Check out Howies stuff.
There is a link off of this home page. Also HI to "sidecar" Bob Brayton. Nice to see
you last night. Do ya remember? One final thing, Thanks to Duane from world internet
for posting my results on his page.
And now the round by round results.
